Question by valerielynn: Is there such thing as gluten free all purpose flour?
I’m new to the whole gluten free lifestyle. I love to cook and I’m currently updating my recipes so that way they’ll be gluten free. I have a few main dish recipes that call for flour (for like a rue, gravy etc).
So my question is there such thing as gluten free all purpose flour? If there isn’t such a thing then what type of gluten free flour could I use?

Brown rice flour — good base flour for baking, store in the refrigerator
Sweet rice flour — good used as a thickener in soups and gravies
Sorghum flour — a nutty flavor, good in cookies and cakes
Tapiocoa starch — lightens the texture in baked goods
Almond meal — improves texture and adds protein to baked goods

You have a wonderful tool, literally, at your fingertips to help you search for the products you need. You will be amazed at what pops up when you search “Celiac Disease”.
It is a matter of easily finding products in your area. If you live in a fairly large city or near one there are markets that carry gluten free products.
After you find the items you need it is a matter of finding ones that taste good. That will be a trial and error process. Much like finding any product you like.

Yes. It’s called soy flour. ANY wheat, rye, or barley flour WILL have gluten in it.
There are huge quantities of different gluten free flours, not all made from grains. For gravy and making a roux, I use rice flour. It’s very easy to use, and strictly speaking you don’t need a roux at all, which is just a way to persuade wheat flour not to go into lumps. With rice flour, you can just add the flour and butter straight into the liquid you want to thicken and just beat it in, then stir till it thickens.
Go to a health store or if in the US Wholefoods or Trader Joes and they will have lots of gluten free flour to choose from.
In the UK, Tesco free from section has rice flour, buckwheat flour and (all purpose) plain white flour blend by Dove’s Farm.
