Question by : I have just been diagnosed with Celiac disease and also just found out I am pregnant.
This is my third pregnancy after two miscarriages. I am terrified at the idea of another miscarriage, especially that I have not yet started the gluten free diet. Is it too late to save this pregnancy?

Gluten intolerance (and celiac is just the best well known type of this) has been found to cause miscarriage in some women. So you have a great incentive to go 100% gluten free – because it won’t just impact your own life expectancy but the life expectancy of your child.
Why haven’t you started the gluten free diet? It’s vital you start immediately. Gluten is poison, not just for you, but potentially for your child, as well.
A study has shown that celiacs that cheat or don’t follow a gluten free diet have a correspondingly shorter lifespan. They did this by taking blood tests, so they knew who cheated, even when they did not admit it.

My mother has CD you will get used to it. It probably won’t effect your baby, but start the gluten free diet SOON because you probably know, gluten makes your body attack and eat it’s self.
Start it really soon.
Good luck, and congrats(about the baby! (: )
I don’t think it’s too late. I can understand the hesitation though. (after losing several pregnancies in a row, the thought of trying again filled me with dread)
Gluten Free Girl went through a pregnancy with celiac, and posts tons of recipes for good food on her blog, as well as a few stories about pregnancy with CD. The GF diet is way daunting at first, but doable, and every day it seems like there are more “gluten free” foods out there being produced!
Keeping my fingers crossed for you!!!
Start eating gluten free immediately!!!!! It will give you the best chance to carry full term if you have been diagnosed with celiac disease. Also take whatever vitamins your doctor recommends.
While I was pregnant I did not know that I had celiac disease…. My pregnancies were so troublesome that could not gain weight..At the end both were premature babies but we all survived :))
Hold on your diet and ask your doctor if you can take additional vitamins and minerals as well as calcium too..I am sure he will check your blood counts and thyroids…Its actually standard procedures for all pregnancy’s…
Celiac or not if you have a easy going relax personality with moderate life style and help of necessary nutriants, everything will be fine! Be happy and enjoy your baby….
