I was just diagnosed with Celiac Disease this last week. I’m 19 years old and a female. How can I get help or support with having this disease? Who would I talk to about what I can or can’t eat anymore? Please help.

www.celiac.org. Find a good supermarket with gluten free products, too. Good luck!

It gets easier, I’m 21 and have been gluten free since I was 17.
You will get frustrated, probably cry in the supermarket and feel left out, but there are plenty of things you can eat and I’m sure that your friends and family will do their best to help.
You can email me (email is open on my profile), I live in New Zealand, so I probably can’t help you with brands of food where you live, but I can give you suggestions.
You could try and google “celiac support group & the city/area you live in”. The website dailystrength.org has online support groups, you could try some of these websites- http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=navclient&gfns=1&q=celiac+disease+support+groups+online or sign up to the About.com Celiac disease website (http://celiacdisease.about.com/)
If you’re even in doubt ask, and if you’re still in doubt don’t eat it. Try and look online at food websites and their nutrition information. When you go to the supermarket, don’t go when you’re rushed. I often spend over an hour in the supermarket making sure I get only what’s safe for me to eat.
Good luck.

The gluten-free diet can be challenging, but you’ll get the hang of it in no time! The National Foundation for Celiac Awareness (NFCA) has an abundance of resources at http://www.CeliacCentral.org. We also have a fantastic community on Facebook (www.Facebook.com/NFCeliacAwareness) and Twitter (www.Twitter.com/CeliacAwareness). Please check them out!
Feel free to email me at cmcevoy@celiaccentral.org. I can point you to more specific resources and mail you our Getting Started Guide.
