Question by navywife_2001: 10th anniversary honeymoon issues! Ive got celiac diease.I need help finding a get-away spot!?
I’m posting this question in two forums hoping to find someone who can help me. Ive never been on a honeymoon with my hubby of all most 10 years. Ive got some health concerns(celiac diease and a diet controlled diabetic) that have prevented me from really going anywhere that I didn’t either cook food for myself, or bring things for me to eat. I want to go on a 10th wedding anniversary get-away with my hubby for 7 days. im having an extremely difficult time finding people who know about celiac (coeliac) diease and diabetes. Can anyone help me?

If you have any interest in a cruise, you might contact a cruise line and ask them if they can accommodate your diet. I know that when you book a reservation, there’s an option you can pick that says you need a special diet. If you told them what your restricted foods and food types are, I’m sure that they could accommodate you. 🙂 Or, you could give them a list of foods that are okay. Either way. They have a lot of experience in accommodating people’s diets.

How about a health spa, they are often in fantastic locations. Either that or you could rent a holiday house or unit somewhere nice and cook your own food. Better than staying home! Oh, and happy 10th anniversary!
There are tons of places that have kitchens where you’d be able to prepare your own foods, as necessary. We’re going to St Thomas for our wedding/honeymoon, and the place we’re staying has a kitchen in the room, and another place we stayed there had on also….Bluebeard’s Castle and Bolongo Beach Resort…that way you’d be in the sunny Caribbean, and still be able to prepare you own foods as per your dietary needs.

Call around and see what hotels and resorts can offer you because of the condition. It might not all be ideal, but it’s worth the extra little work to get your honeymoon. Remember your best bet if you aren’t sure is fresh fruit and vegetables. You’ll be on vacation, so your eating habits may be kinda funky as it is.
Neither diabetes nor gluten allergies are uncommon. Diabetics and people with gluten problems eat out all the time. You just have to be careful and not order something stupid, like mashed potatoes. You should be able to order a steak with a baked potato or rice and vegetables. Blue Ginger in the Boston area specializes in food allergies.
