Question by alexgirl: I’m a Celiac (wheat and gluten allergic) plus have a spastic colon! Any ideas about what to eat?
I have two major problems with the tummy: wheat allergy and a spastic colon. If anyone out there has these two conditions together to deal with (by the way, my doctor says I’m the only one in her practice who has the two conditions to deal with) — I’d be interested in how you keep things under control and give your diet some variety. I’m really limited at this point and losing weight. I do take lots of a pro-biotic and acidophylis which is a big help.

Ideas: Meat, vegetables, fruit, nuts, salads, cheeses, stir fries using tamari instead of soy sauce sauce, rice pasta with bolognase sauce, chicken schnitzels using corn flour and GF breadcrumbs, peanut butter, eggs, omelettes, GF pancakes, rice noodles, stuffed capsicums (minced beef and rice), spinach and ricotta stuffed capsicums, mashed potatoes, baked potatoes, fish coated in rice flour and fried…. there’s so much out there, you just need to be creative. Be careful of buying fries from fast food places, they are often cooked in the same oil as other battered foods.

Hi. I have a question for you, how long have you been diagnosed with eitehr condition? If u are a newly diagnosed Celiac, u may find secondary problems tend to get better as your body heals on the Gluten Free diet.
That beign said, I do not have spastic colon, just CD.
I would say, continue the GF diet, be very strict, perhaps maybe limiting dairy or other triggers right now.
Try the cookbook, Cooking WIthouth by Carol Fenster. It focuses on multiple allergies/intolerances. (remember CD is NOT an allergy but an autoimmune disease.)
Try these sites for more help:
http://www.csaceliacs.org (look under Local Support to find a support group near u for help.)
http://www.celiac.com

http://www.celiaccentral.org
Yahoo has a Health Group called SillyYaks who are very helpful and u may find someon on there who has both conditions.
Good luck.
(FYI make SURE any meds and natural things u take are GF!!)
