Depression, as well as other mood and behavioral disorders, could at times be linked to celiac disease. In several studies, children and adults alike that suffer from celiac disease had higher rates of depression than those without celiac disease.
At times, such studies were done in patients that have untreated celiac disease (that is, they’re still consuming gluten). In some cases, even though the study involved celiac patients that are on gluten-free diets, they still had quite higher rates of depression as compared to those who don’t have celiac.
