Question by Anonymous: Are there any restaurants that are specifically gluten free? For example gluten free pasta and bread?
I’m allergic to gluten but I wish I could go out for pasta or a sandwich like I used to do before I found out I was allergic to gluten. I can’t seem to find any restaurants that are specifically gluten free. I did a search online and all I can find are restaurants with the gluten free options being salad.
Anyone know of any restaurants that serve gluten free meals?
Or gluten free bakeries?

Where are you located.
There are many restaurants in the Chicago area that do have gluten free options on the menu. I know that there are several chain restaurants that have gluten free items as well as independently owned restaurants.
There was an item on the news a while ago about an Italian restaurant that offers gluten free and they even have a separate prep kitchen for the gluten free items so there is no chance of contamination.
I suggest you call a restaurant that you would like to go to and ask if they have items on the menu and what they are.
I think you will find there are more and more options and higher quality items as more people demand them.
I think one of the chains is Bone-fish that has gluten free items.

Here are some chain restaurants that can help you dine out gluten free
Carrabbas
Outback
Bonefish Grill
Magiannos (they do have GF pasta but not a great brand)
PF Changs – excellent menu for GF
The thing you have to remember is that gluten free people only comprise 1-2 percent of the population so a restaurant that is only GF will not usually attract enough business to stay open.
That said, I regularly eat out both in town and during travels and have for 10 years. Everyone is helpful and I have only been misled a few times. Try not to go to a new restaurant during the peak of business without calling ahead or reading a menu online. If the waitstaff doesn’t look like they understand what you are asking, then ask for a chef or manager. Restaurants that use locally sourced food will generally be able to help you whether or not they have anything gluten free on the menu.
I generally do not try to get pasta or bread substitutes when I dine out and save those for making at home. Why ruin a meal out with the chance of a substitute that is not to your liking when there are so many things available?
Outback does have a Gluten Free Menu. Which means Bonefish Grill most likely will too. They are part of the same company.
You will not be able to eat the bread or pasta at Outback, but they do have a gluten free dessert called the Chocolate Thunder from Down Under and over half the menu is Gluten free.
I know you are looking for Gluten Free restaurants, but you know Bisquick makes a gluten free version so you may be able to make some things on your own as an option.
